PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Monday that Washington would send a team to resume talks with the Cambodian government on $445 million in debt Cambodia owes the United States, dating back to the 1970s.
She made the comment at a joint news conference in Phnom Penh with Cambodian ministers.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has called for the debt to be forgiven. Clinton suggested earlier on Monday that part of the debt could be waived if Cambodia's government agreed to spend corresponding sums on education or environmental projects.
