INDIANAPOLIS ? Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels says he'll be looking to see whether 2012 presidential candidates are adequately addressing the nation's ballooning debt as he decides whether to enter the race for the Republican nomination.

Daniels says he wants potential candidates to address what he refers to as the "debt iceberg" the nation is facing. Daniels says it could influence his decision whether to run if a candidate "is willing to deal openly and honestly with the American people about what we're up against" ? and offers a constructive way to get out.

But Daniels said it's too soon to tell whether any potential candidates fit that description.

Daniels also says he's glad the presidential campaigns aren't yet in full swing and says the American people are being spared a three-year campaign.
